Nice article. I still think people should follow and understand the Ashtadhyayi first like it was taught originally. First memorize, then understand the structure, then construct the sutras from the bare ashtadhyayi etc. Unfortunately, the Siddhanta Kaumudi lets the student skip these steps and they're then unable to construct the sutras on their own. This is despite it being a pretty decent elaboration.

For example, 3.1.1 is प्रत्यय and is an अधिकार sutra followed by another 3.1.2 which is परश्च, then 3.1.11 is धातोः. Now 3.1.123 is वर्तमाने लट्, but the above 3 carry their adhikaar, so the sutra becomes धातोः वर्तमाने लट् प्रत्ययः परश्च. We can simply end this with भवति or स्यात् to make a sentence.

Re-arranging it becomes प्रत्यय परश्च धातोः वर्तमाने लट् भवति which is the full sutra. Kaumudi will surely help once this stage is reached with examples and explanations, but it's structure actually leaves much to be desired. It's why folks who don't study from Ashtadhyayi, and go directly in the Kaumudi route take around 12 years whereas if you follow the Ashtadhyayi and use Kaumudi only for explanations, it takes 6 months to 5 years max to master these (And, this is expert opinion, by several I've consulted. Not my personal).
